This policy explains how SGPETSHOP PTE LTD (UEN: 202302713Z), trading as SG Petshop, collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal data when you shop with us or use this website, in line with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). In this policy, “we” and “us” mean SGPETSHOP PTE LTD.

1. The personal data we collect

  • When you place an order: your name, delivery address, phone number, email address, the items you order and any delivery notes you give us.
  • When you pay: payment is handled by our payment service provider. We receive confirmation that you have paid and limited details such as the card type, the last four digits of the card or a PayNow reference – never your full card number.
  • If you create an account or become a member: your email address, a password (stored in scrambled form – we cannot read it), saved addresses, order history, wishlist and membership status.
  • When you contact us by the contact form, email, SMS or WhatsApp: your name, contact details and what you tell us.
  • If you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address and your subscription preferences.
  • If you write a product review: the name you give and your review, which are shown publicly.
  • Automatically, when you use the site: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and how you arrived at the site (for example from a search engine or a link). See Cookies below.

2. How we use it

  • To process, pack and deliver your orders, take payment, and keep you updated on your order.
  • To handle returns, exchanges and refunds.
  • To manage your account and membership.
  • To answer your questions and requests.
  • To send you news and offers – only if you have agreed. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. We will not send marketing messages by SMS, WhatsApp or phone call to a Singapore number unless you have given us your clear consent or the Do Not Call provisions of the PDPA otherwise allow it.
  • To keep the site and our customers secure and to prevent fraud.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the shop is used so we can improve it.
  • To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping accounting and tax records.

3. Your consent

By giving us your personal data for one of the purposes above, you consent to our collecting, using and disclosing it for that purpose. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us (see section 12). We will tell you what withdrawing will mean – for example, we cannot deliver an order without an address – and act on your request within a reasonable time.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed with:

  • Delivery partners – our drivers or couriers receive your name, address, phone number and delivery notes.
  • Payment service providers – to process your payment and any refund.
  • Service providers who run parts of our business for us – website hosting, email delivery and, if you subscribe, our newsletter platform. They may use your data only to provide their service to us.
  • Google – this site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, and our Contact page shows a Google Maps map. When those load, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address. Google’s use of it is governed by Google’s own privacy policy.
  • Professional advisers and authorities – where required or permitted by law, or to protect our rights.
  • A buyer or successor – if our business, or part of it, is sold or reorganised.

5. Transfers outside Singapore

Some of our service providers store or process data outside Singapore. When your data is transferred overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives a standard of protection comparable to that under the PDPA, such as contractual safeguards.

6. Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser so it can remember things between pages. We use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies – your shopping basket, your sign-in session and checkout security. The shop cannot work without them.
  • Preference cookies – small choices, such as having dismissed the cookie notice or chosen the light or dark display.
  • Order attribution cookies – set by our shop software (WooCommerce) to record how you arrived at the site, such as the search engine or link you came from. This is saved with your order so we can see which channels bring customers to us. It is not shared with advertisers.

We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. The Google Maps map on our Contact page may set Google’s own cookies within the map. You can view, block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings; blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop the basket and checkout from working.

7. How we protect it

We make reasonable security arrangements to protect your personal data. The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, card payments are handled by our payment service provider rather than stored by us, passwords are stored in scrambled form, and access to customer data is limited to staff who need it. No system is completely secure, but if a data breach occurs we will assess it and notify the Personal Data Protection Commission and affected individuals where the PDPA requires us to.

8. How long we keep it

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. Order and payment records are kept for at least five years, as Singapore law requires for accounting records. Account details are kept until you ask us to close your account; enquiries for as long as needed to resolve them; and newsletter details until you unsubscribe. After that we delete or anonymise the data.

9. Accessing and correcting your data

You may ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and for information about how it has been used or disclosed in the past year. You may also ask us to correct any error in it. Most account details can be updated yourself under My Account. We will respond within 30 days; if we need longer, we will tell you when we expect to reply. We may charge a reasonable fee for an access request, and will tell you the amount before we proceed.

10. Keeping your data accurate

Please make sure the details you give us – your delivery address and phone number especially – are complete and up to date. We rely on them to get your order to you.

11. Children

This site is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to place your order for you.

13. Other websites

Our site links to others, such as our Facebook page and marketplace storefronts. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will say so on this page.
